James 5:10 As an example of suffering and patience, brothers, take the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.

In the previous section, James gave us the illustration of a farmer tending his crops for an example of being patient. We were able to see how God works and the benefits of being patient and waiting on God. Now James gives us an illustration of OT prophets as an example of being patience and waiting on God. These prophets trusted God through suffering and further reveal to us the rewards of patience. We have OT prophets like Jeremiah who patiently suffered trusting God to intervene in their situations. Even in our suffering Jesus is standing at the door. Many other OT prophets serve as great examples.  Hebrews Chapter 11 honors many of these prophets. Interestingly, of all these great prophets, James chooses to single out Job and specifically honor him for his patience. Many don’t consider Job patient because of his complaining. However, Job persevered and never denied God.
