Throughout Hebrews, the writer emphasizes the unmatched greatness of Christ, both in who He is and in His ministry. The Old Testament rituals and ceremonies were symbolic, pointing forward to the coming Messiah. In other words, the traditions of Judaism were shadows of what was to come. Hebrews reveals that Christ Jesus is far greater than anything religion alone can offer. All the pomp and ritual of religious practice fades in comparison to the person, work, and ministry of Jesus Christ. This theme—Christ’s unparalleled superiority—is woven throughout this beautifully written letter.
